Ferry advice

  1. Hi folks

I fancy a trip for me and the boys to the IOW on Thursday 14th April probably for 3 nights. Any advice on where and how to book the cheapest ferry? Do you pay more by ticking the 'motorhome' box and what if you book as a large car then do they try and charge you more on arrival? Also any good campsite with electric and swimming pool ?

    Many thanks

  2. Book as a large car. Will be fine :)

Prices are the same wherever you book. And a rip off!

Yes or that's what I paid. They might even let you get on an hour earlier too.

  7. ah cool have to look into that although it would mean waking everyone up on the campsite when we arrive!!

Just looked it's gone up a bit since I last went. Maybe we went when it wasn't school holidays. Best I found was £65. Red funnel.

  9. or just pitch up at East Cowes when you get off for a few hours, loads of places round there you can grab a few hours before hitting the site in the morning. I used to live in Southampton and used to wild camp on the island all the time...

Quite a few places and for better times its £130. Or you can go to France with good crossings for £100.

I vote go to France. You might even get some sun

Book as large car alwayson any ferry but me sure you fit the size they state as motorhome will cost big.

Just make sure you have breakdown. If your in Kent as per your username then it's less to travel.

I can recommend a campsite in vic-sur-aisne. Camping la croix du vieux pont. You can be there by lunchtime and they have everything you need. Bit British tho

Yeah I put in motorhome into the search. I'm not going to be responsible for someone's ferry criteria

  15. Just do it.

Just coz you're abroad, doesn't mean you're more likely to break down, despite rumours!

Just take out cover just in case!

The many many times we ferried the channel only ever went as large car, never a problem. It's a bit of a hike to motorhome price ( well was back then).

  17. I'm guessing if we leave euroupe the cost of the ferry to the IOW will double....lol

  18. Check this link out.

I booked one night at 'Park resorts' to get v cheap ferry deal in Peak Summer. Saved approx £90 in ferry cost.
We went Portsmouth to Fishbourne. Stayed one night at Park resorts, Nodes Point: swimming pool, electric, plus loads of families, not my kind of campsite but useful for cheap ferry and we went to a party at my friends house nearby

We then stayed 6 nights at Stoats Farm on the other side of the Island. This campsite is just a field, with few facilities.

Ferry back from Yarmouth To Lymington.

You are going non peak times so it shouldn't be too bad using normal ferry booking

You may as well book it as a motorhome as it isn't anymore than booking it as a car

We go may half term. Been a few times 5+ a long weekend is fine. To many Brits there tho. That's the only let down.
