How did they stick the insulation to the inside of the heat exchangers ? I am going to attack some genuine type 4 ones tomorrow. ??
You used to be able to get little coat things that went on them "Heater boosters " I think they were called I remember the advert sort of like the ones you used to see in the Sunday papers
It's aluminium backed heat proof matting . Mine was stuck in a few places to the outer casing ....I took one of mine apart to repair and weld new flanges on ....a lot of work
I wouldn't wrap the exhaust pipes on a bus engine It's designed to cool the pipes as they leave the head to keep cylinder head temp down This is why the heat exchangers dump hot air when you select the flaps closed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed, but the question relates to insulating just the exchangers. The repro ones are made of junk metal, would covering them accelerate rusting
The question was is it worth the bother. Assuming the repro (poor quality and inefficient) ones are staying, then the extra heat gained at the front can only be found out by trying out some insulation of various types and thicknesses. It does sound worth a go just for the fun of it.
I wrapped my stainless J tubes and that was hard enough to do let alone wrapping the HX .seems a lot of work for no gain
its a bit LIKE HEAT RESISTaNT PAINT , it works perfect till it heats up . the smokes then smokes the , bejesus out of the vehicle , none of it works , exhaust and heat exchangers heat uo to near melting , so nothing works
