Hi James, my deformation panel and most of the inner valance were good so no replacing/trimming, my main effort was repairing the 'washer bottle' panel than connects the inner valance to the floor. Sorry no to be able to help. Martin
No worries. I'm pretty confident it does need trimming when compared to the existing panel and how it aligns with the new inner valance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
More fabrication and welding today. Replicated the pressing where the chassis rail sits too! All of these sections are oversized so I can trim down once they're all done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cheers mate. Part of me really enjoys making little bits like this. The other part just wants the bus back on the road! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Another repair to the front end (welds need dressing yet), and started shaping up the next piece (the rusty template in the background). This panel is starting to look a bit more solid now!
Another busy week on the van. I’ve finished up the welding on the kick panel lip that joins to the inner valance and punched the holes for welding it to the valance. It looks much better now. I just need to clean up the welds: The old inner valance has been chopped out to reveal the ends of the 4 chassis legs: And a trial fit of the new panel to see how it looks. Much nicer!: I’ve a bit of work to do before I can weld the valance in though. The outer chassis legs need shortening slightly to fit the valance as the shape has changed slightly. I also need to repair the O/S chassis leg which has rusted out on the end and prep all the joining metal for welding.
James are you using the kloker inner panel?. I can't seem to find a quality anywhere. Your photos are so helpful for my resto Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Hey mate. I got a genuine one from schofields (assuming you mean the inner valance?). http://www.alanhschofield.com/ourpa...t-Panel-Inner-Genuine-VW-7279-211703561D.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Has anyone else fitted a new inner valance and def panel? (@brothernumberone ?) I'm planning on trimming the upper lip of the def panel so that the bottom lips of the def and valance line up as it doesn't look right to me as is,and I'd struggle to weld the bottom lips as they are. Just intrigued to see what others have done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’ve just about finished repairing the surrounding metal work, ready for the inner valance to go in. This was the only chassis leg that needed any repairs. Now just to get some paint inside them and prep the inner valance.
Max and I finished prepping the inner valance ready to weld in tomorrow. I'll be happy to see it off the workshop floor! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Great work James, you seem to be making steady progress and a great blend of DiY and bought in panels.
Nice work. Are the outer 2 chassis rails supposed to be slightly lower than the main two? They look the same height on this piccy i found.
I've not moved the outers so yes I think so. The inner rails have a corresponding pressing in the kick panel directly above them while the outers don't. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The inner valance is now in! The kick panel gets plug welded to the top of it: and chassis legs seam welded to the back: Solid as a rock now: I'm chuffed with how this turned out as I put a lot of hours into repairing the kick panel, trying to replicate it as best as I could. Looks like it was worth it.
Nice work. Mine really needs all that doing but it's just gonna end up getting patched up and filled again for another year.
