Happened last night around 15000 miles on the tires 4 years old. Never over 65 mph of course . Good thing I had my flat spare and no jack... adac picked me up. Great service .the tires are semperit van life 185r14c
I had a rear go on me a few years ago. I was really impressed with how the van handled it. It tracked straight and i brought it to a controlled stop no problems. I also had a flat spare and no jack Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Wasn’t so bad happened so fast . Had to pick up the tire of the highway . Cops showed up .they were cool. Just kinda pulled over . Going only 60. So no super fast . But got home real late ....all ok nobody hurt etc.
I had a blow out on the M25 once, thinking about it, it’s not called a blow out is it It’s called a puncture
Bloody hell that is shocking on a nearly new tyre - looks as though it overheated - was it low on pressure - my 6 year old tyres have cracked side walls already and only 10k miles
Your tyres need to be used more to keep the plasticiser moving around the tyre. Somebody I knew bought a bus that had sat for a while and as new owners they started using it for trips. Then they had a blowout at 30mph about a mile from home on the way back from a trip .. The worst thing you can do for tyres is just leave the bus standing still for months , why a winter layup is a bad move for reliability even if it reduces rust .. We once bought a car that was a courtesy car bought in 2003 with 6000 miles on the clock from a car supermarket place at a good discount. It was a 52 plate, built 2001 and stored by the manufacturer. All the tyres were cracked and had to be replaced in 2003, before the first MOT.
Tyres should be replaced every four years anyway. The rubber hardens and they crack. Not great if you are only doing around a thousand miles every year, as you'll be chucking away half decent looking tyres.
I think the manufacturers recommend a 6 year life - but most people opt for 10 years. There is a member of our MG club who has rather nice looking Michelin tyres on his 1954 TF - I think they must be the original ones - I keep telling him to change them!
