I've been working no the cab door and on the whole things were going well, happy with the repairs to the door skin but the more I started to uncover the bottom the worse it got. The bit where the drainage hole is completely rotten, and as I look for metal not filler the hole is getting bigger and bigger. I've searched for a repair panel piece but can only find ones like the one below from Just Kampers which don't seem to go as far as this bit with the drainage hole. Any thoughts?
You won’t find a repair piece for the inner section. All the bits on display there are part of the outer skin, what’s the inner like? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The inner seems fine, I've just seen this on Heritage, which I think is the bit that I need? *Don't think it is that looking at it again! View attachment 129226
Check out the last few posts on James Ley's thread. https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/a-restoration-for-iris.53455/page-87
Ahh I see! thanks @Zed and great work @JamesLey that's really helpful to see what it's meant to look like! I was very clearly overthinking it! Cheers
No worries! I’ve got some more images somewhere of that area with the door skin completely off when I first restored that door. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think I should have gone full resto rather than try to patch up tbh, would have been less time in the long run!
The doors on, but it's not right. the repairs I've done on the edge won't hold the seal is so following @Chrisd and @JamesLey I think I will start again replace the whole skin and the underneath.
If you got a (suspiciously cheap) Brazilian door seal, they dont stay put without a lot of glue, the channel of the older doors is too wide for the seal.
I got the one from Heritage, It fits mostly except the bit where I have botched at the bottom, but you are right, suspiciously cheap! Door back off after Easter and I'll have another go.
It seemed like it only folded over the lip of the edge of the door, rather than bulking up in the channel round the edge of the door as well. Basically without glue it fell off once I shut and opened the door a few times testing it. It is really nice soft rubber though, so I ended up using a lot of glue, and it works a lot better than a 12 year old seal that had been chewed on by the fixings for a roofrack.
