4 hr drive from Rimini to Rome today - used a full tank of fuel and decided to just drive whilst little one in back was cooperative with her personal 12v fan and supply of water . It was hot! But billy bus made it without any issues without a stop - the electric fuel pump got a bit noisy in the heat but drove well and arrived safely. These old buses are pretty impressive. I won’t lie I needed a shower and a change of clothes pretty sharpish on arrival
I’ve done that journey in a bay a few times. There must be better roads as the driving took us longer, however we did used to stop a lot when we saw somewhere interesting!
I am a little more comfortable knowing van can survive the heat as we have southern Spain and Portugal to cover in august so was a bit of a concern!
Concern yourself not! Death Vally Ranger Station at 17.45 in the evening. Minimum night time temperature the following day was 32 at 5am. We didn't sleep much. Our 'cold' water was hot enough to wash and do the dishes in. Why I like the head temp gauge on the t4 engine coz in high ambients you can modify your driving
I am a little more comfortable knowing van can survive the heat as we have southern Spain and Portugal to cover in aufus that is hot! My driving consisted of one speed 100km for 4 hrs at 3250 rpm - my engine does not slow on hills provided I don’t have to brake and then try and get momentum again mid hill. I would drive myself crazy looking at head temps I just reassure myself that one day I will be in for another rebuild ignorance is bliss and I know that is not a very smart move but I am enjoy the now kind of guy!
Quite pleased that after replacing both rocker cover gaskets my oil is staying in the engine not all over my heat exchangers and exhaust! So that’s a start!
