Thanks for the sites - the T2 heating page has got the clearest diagrams I've seen on sorting out the heating. No excuses for me anymore, I had better try to tackle mine.

I went my local VW dealer yesterday and he had the same microfiche but on the computer and he was able to tell me that what i was looking was dis con 1n 1991 and not replaced

for those with a type 4 engine, if you're after an off the shelf oil filter halfords HOF202 is the one for you, i did a bit of cross referencing and just fitted one on my van, loos exactly the same as the mann one i had on and the meyle one before that, handy to know on a bank holiday.
