Almost finished the sliding door repair, its coming on well and the profile is much better than the one we did for Gusbus' rebuild. We made ourselves a profile to work to, the last time we went by eye. Anyway, the inner repair is complete and looking good, the fold on the outer skin has gone well and the line follows that of the original one It needs a lick of paint as we had run out!
The outer skin repair also went well, but the heat from welding bowed the top of the repair slightly so we had to do a bit more filling work than I was hoping for. It does look okay though, the profile is pretty close to how it should be! Did a bit of prep work on the rest of the door, flatted back a few dings here and there, filled them in readiness for sanding the door, both inside and out ready to be painted
On the inside of the door, on the beams, it looks like there was some panel bond which had gone hard and broken away from the door skin. This will be redone next week too. Whilst the filler was going off, I rebuilt the middle locking mechanism as the spring was broken and the buffer rubber perished. Looks good after a scrub up
Aside to rubbing the paint back on the sliding door, prepping it etc etc, work gave us the afternoon off today (all good ) so I thought it time I got the parts washer out and scrubbed the door fitting clean I'm pleased how they cleaned up, the lower rollers had seized up, they are running free now. Got the middle catch roller to fit to that assembly prior to refitting. We collected the paint as well
Following on from our parts scrubbing session, we have made superb progress and the sliding door repair is nearly finished. In between that, I managed to get another part of the lock mechanisms painted: Prepped ready for paint: High Build Primered: And finally, we have colour; absolutely love how its panned out! First coat on the outer side: We have one good coat of colour to apply followed by a final lighter coat prior to lacquering it
The garage has a couple of radiators and also a fan heater and a couple of high wattage lamps in the roof; the spraying isnt a professional quality but Im more than happy with how we have done Major so far!
You can put the can/spray in hot water it works for moi... You have the same slit in your door as me @MorkC68 ,you bus looks good as is...
We finished painting the sliding door just before Christmas, the louvre window resealed, nothing much to do today so we refit it Quite pleased with the shut lines, all of the locks work as they should so we popped a new trim panel on and inserted the louvre window. We're gonna MOT him in the new year so we can move him from the unit to home and back to work on him
