hi guys , right I’m after some advice ! My bus has been in for her annual carb tuneup and my trusty old school mechanic tells me that my twin solex carbs are on there last legs ! Worn out was his words . So I guess my question is do I just by new ? Which ones are best suited ? Will new carbs work fine with a pretty old engine? It’s a AP coded 1975 1800 engine?
you should ask him what he means by 'worn out'. original solex carbs are best, they probably just need to be cleaned, refurbed with the kit and new spindle bushings. all doable, inexpensive and worthwhile. search on the forum for more solex carb posts. the subject has been covered many times on here.
Not much wears out, the spindles which can be rebushed and the jets wear which can be replaced. They also get bunged up, but a good clean in an ultrasonic bath (they are not that expensive) will clean up crud.
I have still some throttle spindle bushes for sale: http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/all-solex-carbs-throttle-bushes.76032/
He did mention the spindles being worn ? So I can get all the replacement parts and give them a good clean ? Who does the best replacement kits? And is there a list anywhere on the forum of everything I would need? Last question ! is it a big job?
Yes fine So worth the money after fighting with Brosol and EMPI Kevin Leaworthy does a good work as well Judging by the Fan shroud he did for me Top Bloke
