Are calipers handed? The one on the left is from the drivers side but i can't see any difference. Also should i refurbish these or get new ones? Ive removed them because the bleed nipples are solid, also the bus hasn't been on the road for about 10 years according to previous owner. If i was to refurbish them what kit would i need and what nipples as i haven't got a clue there seams to be alot of choice. August 71 bus by the way Cheers Ian Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Have a look at http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/buying-new-refurbished-front-calipers.76870/#post-1440373 i went with biggred.co.uk because he was nice on the phone and made me up a mix and match kit as i had different calipers each side. Not too bad a job but you might need compressed air to shift the pistons as its been stood a while,
I was only just thinking the same yesterday about my calipers , one piston on mine was sticking on each side , I’ve managed to free them up just by moving them in and out , I remember a while back an Mot tester telling to put a bit of WD40 around the piston?, I’ve not done this but open to suggestions. If you used compressed air keep your fingers out of the gap between the pistons and put a piece of wood in (but leave a gap for the piston to move) They might come out with bang and you don't want a mashed finger
Good point...mine made a good dent in the wood took a while to make it let go, it was like a pit bull! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Hi iblaze. Looks like someone has painted them in the past. If it was me I would remove all the old paint and then see how they then look. Chances are they should be ok. Replace the nipples as matter of course. It makes bleeding easier. As for seals kits I am sure JK do one. Thats who i used. Along with the pins and rattle plates. I do suggest you do not split each caliper. It goes with out saying. Your brakes are very important!!.
use air gun with rubber end to help seal the hole ,i tryed doing it with out rubber end ,could get the pistons to come out DOH how stupid was i ,
I would just get brand new repro ones, they are not expensive and won't be rusted or scored inside as those old ones are likely to be. and the bleed nipples will work.
Wife read this bit Then went on Jk and ordered new ones Bonus shes paid for em Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Try brakes international. https://brakeparts.co.uk/shop/VW/Tr...bi/Front - Brake Calipers and Wheel Cylinders
and with new calipers you can paint them in your favourite colour, all the rage these days. my son bought nice new calipers for his Golf mk2 resto, and painted them Tornado Red to match the car, very nice.
Yes that’s what I thought, well they seem free now , I’ll keep an eye on them and probably get new ones in due course Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
