Hi, Have decided to return my progressive carb and need another set.I just want reliabiliy ,minimal fuss and not worried about increased performance. What about these ?https://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/vw-...r-kits/type-4-weber-ict34-kit-cb-performance/
I’ve got these on my 2ltr T4 bay, they are brill, just fit, set up on a rolling road and then forget and enjoy your van
I ran a Single weber progressive on mine for many years and despite comments elsewhere was happy! I fitted a pair of standard solexes. Never got them set up right and went back to the weber for a few more years. The weber, to me, was better than standard but eventually i did want to sort out the flat spot and cold running issues which i didnt think were a massive issue but nevertheless i fitted a pair of dellortos. What a revelation it was too. I never realised how tractable and easy to drive it could be. I know nothing of other carbs so cant help that much but if they give anything approaching the reults i had then you will be well chuffed! My vot if for dells but ask about set up as you can spend a firtune getting them right and they arent cheap to start of with. For the record im running a pair of DRLA 40s with 28 mm venturis. Cant remember exact jetting but if you go down this route then i can advise on what ive fitted. Mines a type 4 2 litre btw.
Thats exactly what I want to hear.Set up and virtually forget. Will order a set tomorrow. Is it okay to rack your brain with questions once i start to fit them. Thanks
I’ve written on your other thread. I do however have a progressive that if you want to fit and try it your welcome too. Come to mine (I’m Hemel Hempstead) and of you like it, you can either buy mine or buy new. There is nothing wrong with progressive. How many are saying they are crap without actually fitting one themselves.
I have that kit on mine. I found it overfuelled with the supplied jetting with the og electric fuel pump. I now have a low pressure pump (huco?) and revised jetting and it’s spot on. I did a thread on it
If your still in Oxfordshire your not far from me. Come over and fit my progressive and see what you think of it and then decide. At least then you can return your progressive if you hate it having not used it. If your deffo getting new carbs (twins?) then give Gower & Lee in bushy a call. They seemed to have a good reputation but never used them myself.

Hi, Whilst I know absolutely nothing about single Progressive Carbs as others have said on either this or your other thread a venturi per barrel is best (eg Dellorto DRLA), followed by twin split carbs then finally a single carb. I'm running Twin Dellorto DRLA 36's with 30mm Chokes on my Type 4, fitting these & having them set up properly was without doubt the best thing I ever did. I'm running a very basic 1908cc Type 4 with 8.1 : 1 Compression ratio & I have absolutely no flat spots, 84 BHP @ 4386 rpm, healthy torque throughout the rev range with 109ft/lb torque at 2956 rpm. The van has done 3 x 1000+ mile summer holidays to France & hasn't missed a beat. Whilst not cheap if you can find some DRLA's & can stretch to these then go for these. Hope this helps. Dave
Thanks icts it is ! Really appreciate all the replies and help on this .Will pop over to Oxford at some point and take you guys up on the kind offer and treat you to breakfast .Do you know the Cafe at Dorchester roundabout ?
You'll like the ICT's, especially the CB Performance kit, its nice and easy to fit. We have that very kit on our type 4. The only thing I would comment on is to check your fuel pressure - ICT's like a maximum of 3.5 psi, but will run very well with pressure as low as 2.5 psi without starving the engine of petrol. A good rolling road session will soon have you with a nice driveable bus.
It will vary from one pump to another but it’s usually between 3 and 5 psi – probably too much pressure for the ICTs but many use the mechanical pump without any problems. If you have difficulty tuning the carbs look at the fuel pressure first.
It is worth measuring the fuel pressure. Mech pump can vary, but normally as above. Mine gives out about 3psi, which is fine for my Dells.
I could say exactly the same for the webber progressive! It’s the rolling road that’s key. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I’m on about the Rolling Road tuning really is the key to a sweet running bus, what ever the carb choice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
