Last night a rotten git stole an old dolly tub that my lovely neighbour was using as a planter. The second tub was relieved of its bay tree and presumably being emptied for a similar fate but the thief got disturbed. Awaiting a call back from the police now but given the response I got just reporting it I don’t think there’s much to be gained
That’s crap, and you’re right, the police will be able to do sod all about it. All for a few quid at the car boot sale. Makes me angry. Sorry for your neighbour
Sad story......particularly as you can buy resin replicas at most garden centres....your neighbour would probably be best to go down this route.....its sad that in this modern world, we can't display nice things for fear of some yob thinking they have more right to it !
The old dolly tubs are about £60 round here, but the money isn’t the point. The mess and distress is. Police can’t do anything, obviously, and I guess thieves know that. Worryingly the chap who disturbed the thief asking him what he was doing, as he thought it strange gardening at night, said that the thief told him he was ‘helping his grandma’. Obviously Carla isn’t his relative but he clearly knew an older lady lived there. Because of the nature of the village, conservation area/UNESCO site, there is an expectation on and responsibility of us residents to maintain an in-keeping both inside and out the houses. Don’t know, I know I need to improve my security too but whatever we do has to be agreed by the conservation team or else the fine us! Bah. Rubbish morning. Shower then a head clearing walk followed by sewing, I think.
Git. Well done him from knowingly stealing from an old lady. He must be v proud of himself I just read on fb that some youths in village nr my dad had been drinking and being rowdy on local kids play area and left cans, broken glass and a badly injured hedgehog that had to be put down. I would happily drive my van at them if I knew who it was
practical things... i think a security light would be the best thing as the thief took time to empty the tub/s of a lot of soil and ballast/drainage before spiriting away. we think that he probably had taken the first one then came back for the second when he was disturbed emptying it. Illuminating him would've probably deterred him. are battery security lights any good? as most are now LED and, therefore not drawing much power, i thought a battery one may be a good idea as there's no drilling through a listed building and i can get a couple rigged quite quickly.
I’ve got a couple of LED solar powered lights down my garden after I got my shed robbed a couple of times. They weren’t expensive, and surprisingly even the smallest amount of sunshine keeps them topped up and working.
Does anyone know any decent battery security lights? Have had a quick look on the net but been busy clearing up Carla’s garden

Ace, will look into them. Thinking about mounting them and wondering if white ones that I can screw into window or door frames would be better? Less hassle from conservation too?
