How was your day?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Ermintrude, Nov 18, 2018.

  1. I'd put today aside for a whole day of sewing and given all the motivational musical encouragement yesterday, was in a good place for this to be THE most productive sewing day ever.
i lost the morning to helping lovely neighbour, no matter, i have the rest of the day

    here's how it went;
Shower to rid myself of all the clearing and garden detritus
    Sew hat
    Wrestle hat out of machine
Replace broken needle and retrieve chewed up bits of hat.
    Rethread the machine.
Machine decided that 'stitches' need to be more decorative than functional and making huge loops of thread
Adjust tensions (various combos of 4 different threads)
    Nothing
Adjust differential feed (4 more combos)
Cut all threads and rip out of machine
    Rethread
    Test stitching
    Swear. a LOT
Remove all threads into another room
    Take machine apart.
    Service machine
Rethread with black thread for next project - the hat is dead to me
    Proper stitches. Huzzah!
Pour celebratory glass of wine and have a sit down
    Scratch head
Wonder why hair is dry and crusty
    Swig wine
Rinse hair of deep conditioning treatment applied hours ago
    Finish glass of wine
Feel a bit squiff. remembered i haven't eaten all day
    Start making cauliflower cheese
Go to answer front door to find a pile of ocado crates and a sweaty delivery man realising from the look on my face that he has the wrong house.
Return to cheese 'glue' climbing out of the pan
    Pour more wine
    Resuscitate sauce
    More wine
    Eat
    Whine :D

It's now gone 8pm and i am sitting in chaos, slightly squiffy with very floofy hair.

not. a. stitch. of. sewing. done.

    how was your day? :D

  5. best make sure she doesn't get an overlocker then!

i've always said that the only true test of a man's love is if he's prepared to learn to thread and service the overlocker and do it every time i want to chuck it out of the window.

i still don't believe the lovely village near barnsley thing:confused:

  12. Quite honestly the worse day I’ve ever had.

I had to have my dog put to sleep this evening. Nearly 13 years together. The absolute love of my life. I’m a broken man. I have a wound in my heart that I just can’t imagine can heal.

Rest in peace my best friend. Daddy’s boy.

    I love you Diesel. Xxxxx

Hmm I guess the start of the day was actually the early hours of the morning when I went to bed having sat up til stupid o'clock playing music with TLB friends!! :D
Almost a whole four hours later I got up to go to Salisbury to then drive to Chichester market with my mate to stand in the freezing cold all day attempting to flog random film related tat, er sorry, I mean 'promotional memorabilia' (mostly t-shirts and hoodies), to haggling shoppers and non-English speaking Romanians, down the ol' car boot sale.
Ended up wearing a lot of the stock in an attempt to keep warm, but eventually gave up at 2.30, got paid, and then promptly spent all my money buying my mum a new mobile phone for her birthday.
Drove back to Salisbury, piled some stuff for ebay into my camper, and then went off to raid my Aunt and Uncle's house of anything vaguely useful that neither of them want in their divorce settlement, liberating a 'George' and a pair of B&O speakers in the process.
Came home and then spent the next hour trying to fit the speakers into the dining room and wiring them up to the amp connected to the computer.
Revisited last night's 'Motivational music' thread for speaker testing purposes and blasted the neighbours out with Iron Maiden 'Run to the Hills' (thanks @Ermintrude !)
Now contemplating the pile of ebay parcels that I didn't get around to wrapping last night because I was listening to music, drinking gin, and dancing round the house.
Maybe I'll just use the last of that bottle of tonic water, and think about my next move....

It's been ok. Up early, shower and off to York racecourse to Dolls house fair, walked round a lot, met a friend of ours, carried bags, had lunch and drove home. Crashed out whilst wife inspected spoils/trophies. It's all go.

Huge clear out of "baggage" from study.
Looking through your past and deciding what to save is very levelling.
Not a lot of it is still relevant or means anything accept being personal and sentimental.
    Luckily I'm still sanguine.:)
