Just removed this weekend from my '78 late bay, believe this is the original starter. I believe this fits manual busses only from 76-79 This has worked great for the 4 years i've owned my bus but in the last month or so it's started to show occasional symptoms of a sticking solenoid. A couple of light taps and it then works fine. Once you've done that it'll work fine then for the next few days, only seeming to stick again after you've done a particular long (like 2+ hrs) trip. Whilst it can add a certain frisson of excitement to any trip, and to be honest the kids love it when i have to climb under the van with a hammer but being realistic i didn't want the van to let my wife down at night/ in the rain etc so i've invested in a new replacement which means this original unit is up for sale. I'm sure you can probably swap the solenoid for a new one and it'll probably be good to go, but i'd prefer not to mess around myself. You could of course send it over to a specialist to get a refurb which is another option. £30 Ideally collection from Oxford or i can post at your cost.
