In my absence Ed focused on the cab floor and after applying anti-rust some red oxide primer was applied.

Started to examine the inner support sill and inner sill and their relation to the outriggers and jacking points in order to install them to give extra strength to the body before the chassis is cut.

    Scary times ahead.......

    So more parts arrived

And another section was cut out so that the “Y” piece for the heater tube could be changed and give better access to the chassis

So the closing panels went in

Then the inner support sill went in

The welding was cleaned up and red oxide applied

Then came lots of trial fitting all the top hats, outriggers and jacking points before the inner sill was positioned and then welded.

Removed the wiring loom from the back of the van

Also collected 2 x 3m lengths of 4cm x 4cm box section to brace the chassis ready for cutting.

Today the old offside closing panels were removed

The new closing panels, inner support sill, inner sill, top hats, and outriggers/jacking points were trial fitted.
This revealed that as there were no sills when a replacement outer sill was fitted by a previous owner it wasn’t fitted quite right as wasn’t the home made bottom section of the ‘B’post that lead to the front wheel arch being slightly out also.

Once the ‘B’ post was cut the outer sill mated with the new inner sills and jacking point removing the 15mm gap that was there.

More measuring and trial fitting to do but with luck the inner sills will be welded in place tomorrow.

But the subject of colour has raised its head again.

    It’s either;

Back to the original satin colour
    [IMG]

    A shiny original
    [IMG]

    Duck Egg blue
    [IMG]

    A red colour
    [IMG]

Or the original orange/white it was from new

Cheers pal. It’s getting scary soon though as the chassis will soon have to be cut.

I like all those colours apart from the red one. For some reason red looks wrong on a late bay lmo.

  17. some great work going on here. amazing how much rot there was..

pastel green looks very nice IMHO - i'd go with the shiny though not satin (second pic).

So one of the lighter shades of green from this pallet appears to be the favourite

    Page 2 that is

Birch green or light green are the shades I like.

So a couple of days have passed and work has continued.

The inner support sill was welded into position and then a coat of red oxide primer put in the inner support sill, inside the outer sill and on the inside of the inner sill

Inner sill was then welded in

The outer sill took a lot of adjusting to fit as when it was installed by a previous owner they had not had any inner sills to work with so it was slightly low.
This left the bottom of the B post to address. I saw that bespoke B posts are available but ain’t cheap and we only needed the bottom section. So I made my own.
