I did think about it, but I quite like the pump up one!

Think the pedal should go down so that the piece of metal at right angles to pedal touches floor.
Mine has a different pedal and a piece of metal sticking up from the floor.

Like I’d just bolt on grubby bits! A stack of bits back from the platers ready for another 40 years service.

It’s bloody lovely! Wasn’t that expensive really. Means I can just bolt stuff on and not arse around cleaning bits up.

You’ve proper gone to town on the bits to chrome!, sliding door spacer and heater mechanism bits behind the dash!

It’s the attention to detail and all the little bits being clean though that sets really good resto’s off, keep it up Jim!

  11. Hi James,
I don't have any preference for VW's in particular as in I like most classic motors, I joined the forum purely to look at the restoration's and yours was the first I read.
I have to echo what has already been said many times, brilliant work. The methodical approach you have shown to each stage has been educational to follow and the fantastic outcome to date is truly deserved.
I look forward to reading future updates.

Thank you kindly! It’s been a huge learning curve and has taught me a whole new skill set I never imagined I’d get involved in (I work in IT so spend most of my days at a desk). I’ve definitely caught the resto bug!

  13. Wow I’ve started reading your thread today currently on page 27. Am I right in saying you had no welding experience when you started this ??? I’m slightly scared at how much work you’ve put in! I want to weld mine and I’m going to get scrap panels this time home to start learning with my mig. Have you any tips?
It looks like you could do this stuff full time now! Excellent work and I’ll continue reading your thread.

I’d welded some benches for the workshop but that was about it. I went on two one day Welding courses to give me half a chance (one on general welding and one on automotive Welding).
It’s just practice really. Starting on the underside and chassis is definitely the way to go as it’s thicker metal and unseen so it gives you some time on the welder without worrying about blowing holes. Start a resto thread on here definitely helps too

Majority of the dash built up, and wiring reconnected.

  18. Are you missing the silver centre for the blank in the right hand pod? Let me know if you want one, I have a couple and I'm dying for an excuse to come and have a look.

Oh yeah. Didn’t even realise that was supposed to have something in it. Feel free to pop down whenever you fancy!

Does anyone have any spares for the steering column (@davidoft). I think I’m missing a few bits. There is a plastic insulating ring at the top I believe and perhaps a thrust washer?
