Accelerator cable to carb connection?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Daniel Williamson, Nov 12, 2018.

  1. Hi all,

Newbie here currently restoring a 1974 T2 Bay, I’m trying to work out how to connect the accelerator cable to the carb, the carb isn’t standard one I think it may be a twin port weber? Do I need to buy a kit as the cable doesn’t seem to reach. Thanks in advance. Dan

Think everyone is busy on the cockney rhyming slang post ....however, you should have a bar running between the two carbs that the accelerator cable attaches to and opens both carbs in unison.

On my progressive there was some kind of adapter. I’m not home now until the weekend. I’ll see if I can find a picture.

  4. Looks like a progressive Weber, @mikedjames will know what linkage you need

  6. Thanks for your replies, I will have a search of linkage kits for Weber and get one ordered. In the meantime I’ve bodged one together using an electrical connector and ring terminal, works quite well.

Sadly that cable crimp is brass and it will saw through and leave you suddenly stranded.

Basically the kit that bodges on there is one of the EMPI throttle cable shortening kits that connects to a heim joint that clips over the 'knob' on the segment of a disc on the throttle shaft.
It is an utterly hopeless way to do it.
The throttle pedal provides 17mm of travel. The progressive needs 21mm of throttle travel. So it actually gives you a 32mm carburettor, with the progression barrel barely opening.
The cable saws through the tube going through the fan housing.

You need a bell crank linkage on the throttle. Which allows the throttle cable to pull horizontally and amplifies the motion to the throttle spindle.
I made one but the premium manifold kit seems to have one these days.

Look at my thread in the How To section.

And I am still happily driving around with a progressive even when its below zero.

  9. Thanks for your reply & info it’s much appreciated, I’m a bit off getting on the road, I still need to do all the interior yet. I will check out your thread & get the correct linkage before taking it out.
