Annoying little issues

  1. Hi Guys, I know I have been saying that I have nearly finished my van. It's now MOT complete with no issues but, I have two things I need to sort firstly, window rubbers us there any way of making the glass slide up and down easier my winders are struggling and everything except the glass is new. Secondly, I have a volkswares rock n roll bed and the new cushions and the bed are great but, unlike some beds it has nothing to stop the cushions sliding off the seats. Anybody any ideas about how to get them secure?
Any help is appreciated I am almost there change if use, then insurance, then tax and then done hopefully!

Try silicone spray on the window rubber edges and the felt channel, worked for us!

I improved the way my windows glide by using a lithium grease on the threaded riser part of the mechanism. Not sure how this'll work if the parts are new though.
Can you use some wide strips of velcro on the cushions?

  4. Velcro strips through the wire mesh is the way to secure cushions on a Volkswares bed. Sew 5cm wide strips onto the bottom of the cushions then attach the other side of the velcro through the mesh.

  5. what condition is your winder mechanism in? I had a problem with one window being very hard to wind up from from fully open. the problem turned out to be that the channel the slider travels up & down in had flared out at the end, I used a pair of pliers to close the flared end (it to make the ends of the channel parallel again) and a cable tie (!) to stop it flaring again an the job's a good'n :)

  6. Are you sure the window felts are fully pushed into the doors? Also: are they the right size? They should be nice and slim in the frames. I bought some "compatible" ones from JK years ago that were great hairy monsters: I think they got a job lot from the market. No way were they going to work.

When you're checking, best to unbolt the window glass from the winder and lift it by hand. If the felts are tight, you may strip the winder, and replacement mechs are made of Chinese cheese.

Once you're done, as above, silicone spray's good as a lube.

Silicone spray on the felts and winding the window up with the bolts slackened on the glass clamp piece. Along with all the other bits being in straight.
Take care if its very stiff as original window winder mechanisms are beautifully designed to lock the glass in position and unobtainable and repro ones are weaker and dont lock and have gear teeth made out of soft pressed steel.
Even go as far as take out the mechanism clean and regrease it if its still stiff when its not bolted to the glass.

  9. The glass seems to go up okay by hand but, when connect to the lifting part it seems to cause the glass to tilt and not lift straight

  10. I had a similar problem which I ended up leaving out the top mounting bolts and the only thing I could think of to cause this was that the door had been reskined badly and thus no longer the right shape

  11. Does the support bar (with the rubber gripper) wobble as it goes up?

  12. yes but, its not loose the bolts are tight, its as if the drive is loose but, it is a new one as with the left side which works okay.

  13. mine are complete new doors?

  14. Is it a fine Chinese lifter ;)?

  15. its not genuine put it that way.

  16. Job done, bought genuine used winder mechanism, fitted it and even though it looks like it is 200 years old compared to the shiny new one that was in, it worked first time and the window rolls up and down perfectly. Obviously cheap replacement rubbish isn't a patch on genuine VW old stuff, as we all know tuesday_wildchild
