Another Dellorto DRLA - Bellcrank Linkage type thread...

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Deefer66, Feb 16, 2020.

  1. So after reading lots of of old threads I'm still not sure whether it's best to fit reversed, swap throttle linkage ends on carbs of leave every thing as it is ...

Hows your Dells set up .. pictures incl throttle lever and pivot modification if worthwi
    Hole welcome..

I'll find more questions as I try and fit later...

  2. I have a CB Performance, with an odd extra external spring connected to the throttle bar. I can't find any information about the external spring or the arm on the coil mount :( At some point I need a new mount, as a spring has worn through the bracket, but I can't find one.

  3. Weld the slit back up? Good as new.

  4. Yeah, the thought had occured, fairly thin sheet, however.

  5. Gaffer tape for the win.

Wrap loads round it, then pierce a new hole.

No need to thank me for my technical wizardry

  6. Try fitting a mini eye bolt... Like at the end of a silent gliss curtain rail

  7. @F_Pantos
my spring is connected to a small hole in the metal just above the engine bay lid, so I assume you don't need to connect it to a bracket.

Is it just a throttle return spring? My spring came off once and i drove back from Scotland without it on, made no difference

  8. Someone else said the same thing, new one's don't come with the bracket, so I have no idea where the previous owner got it from.

  9. Don't know if this old photo helps with throttle linkage ends on carbs

    Or with return spring positioning[IMG]

  10. On my type 1, it's just the CSP bellcrank with the basic "egg-shaped" fitments on the throttle shaft. The Dellorto "double-clanger" linkage ends don't work on a type 1, as the longer second levers clout the fan shroud nozzles. Works fine, nice and simple. Only downside is that if you want to tweak the idle speed, you have to do both sides, possibly unbalancing the carbs.

If you do go for a CSP, worth buying the extra return spring that goes under the base of the sticky-up column. Takes out any possible drag in the throttle cable.

  11. I use that linkage on the Bug, I am a big fan, tho I was surprised by the linkage ends fouling the fan shroud on one of the Bays at TE. (No heaters on the Bug, so I wasn't aware this was an issue. I don't think the fouling issue applies to the Type 4 engine version).

  12. I never quite worked out what the double-lever thing was for. The long lever ends will def clout the fan shroud nozzles. The ball ends are no good for a centre-mount linkage anyway.

    My egg-levers work just fine...

  13. Thanks

  14. Choices seem to be:

Ditch the second lever.. not much use.

Fit with throttle stop at the back and live with difficult access

Fabricate something to move the centre mount forward on the case and have throttle stops easy to get at

Spin the carbs onto other side..loose the spring lug so the linkage doesn't foul and have the throttle stop at the front..

  15. Why can't you fit the lever and the throttle stop on the same side (ie the front)? Seems a bit odd having them at opposite ends.

  16. Throttle stops on on mine are both facing you as you look at them, much easier to set up.

  17. Centre mount won't reach the front of the carbs without mountng it further forwards

Filed a bit off the lug so it clears now but kept spring catching groove just in case

  18. One of the best parts of the dell carbs is the fine screw adjustment throttle stops

    Which you have binned

the lobe shaped ****** bits of tin just slop around on the end of the shaft
