We're the new custodians of the yet-to-be named monster you see above.

I used to have a 79 Westfalia 1.8 back in my 20's (25 years ago) when I was too poor to really run or upkeep one.

25 years later I've realised I'm still too poor to run one or upkeep one! What madness came over us?

This is the most flattering photo of him(?). We've since taken the interior out and found a hole or too. We've set a tight target of MOT'd by Easter so that we can get away in him with nothing but the rock&roll bed and a few plastic boxes.

In the back is a tricked up Stateside Tuning built engine, that I hope I can afford to run. Something like 2.4litre, 135 hp. A gearbox by Bears Motor Sports.

I've reconditioned the calipers, put new pads in. Disappointed to find that even though its a late bay, there's no servo!

Booked in to Armstrongs in Cricklade for welding of the offside sill and a hole in the rear wheel arch where the R&R Bed seems to have pushed through.

Anyway, looking forward to spending a lot of time on here and already inspired by some of the incredible undertakings of you all.

    Regards

    Hello mate!
    Where's the photo??

  3. Did that work? trying to reference the photo from either Dropbox or Google Photos and struggling. I'm in IT.. you'd think that this would be the easiest part of the project.. what chance have I got with a welder??

I can see it now! Looks good.
Did you post a photo of this last week, or are you the second metallic blue bus owner to join this month?

Welcome aboard. ^That sounds interesting, tell me more. There are not many engine guys left on here these days, many just fits a Scooby lump.
Nice looking bus by the way.

  6. What we can see is nice paint, but you have mentioned holes and welding work, so does that mean its a bit rot underneath. Do you have any pics of those areas.

Never mind the holes, he mentioned a 2.4 engine, let’s have some pics of that. A hole is just a bit of air, if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all.

  9. Does it run on LPG ... I’m up in old town

  10. Second Blue Bus!
It has most of an LPG system in there... which I was on the verge of pulling out.. it takes up sooooo much room. We used the T4 every other weekend and I think we'd like to do the same with this T2, but I feel like there isn't much storage in the T2 and to lose half of it to a great storage tank... Its missing a few parts, maybe evaporators/vaporisers? I don't know whats missing as Ive never had a LPG before. Come to think of it its been a very long time since I smelled petrol.
From the outside it looks stock - Twin Weber 40 IDF, some race filters/pumps, and extra Oil cooler, an extra large sump. Internally I remember the seller saying "single billeted crank" but then he lost me. He was trying to get the bus to do the 1/4 mile in under 18 seconds and I think he thought this setup would have no issues. I took him at his word - sounded lovely but then I might have been impressed by holes in the exhaust. I'll try and get photos and more history soon.

    Thanks for the welcome!

  15. Don't run that high power motor on LPG. lPG makes engines run hotter and aircooled don't like that.

Ask @Chrisradioman he had issues as a result of LPG. @67westy as well maybe but unconfirmed.

  16. I don't think my issues were due to lpg, the heads were cracked when we fitted the lpg. To be fair it ran well on it but it was a standard 1600tp. I didnt want to run it on my new engine whilst it was in warranty and don't cover enough miles at the minute to make the savings
