  1. Evening,

Wiring problems - Brake light - not working

Looked at Samba diagram - not 100% clear - links to the 8 wire block

    Any ideas, photos, suggestions....
    Would be really helpful

The switches on the master cylinder are notorious for failing.

May be worth checking before getting into the wiring and fuses.

  3. Thanks for the info about the master cylinder....

Going for a long shot ..... think we have a dashboard / wiring / brake light wire problem ..... thought you might have a photo or had a similar issue.

The wire was black with red dots, it is connected to the rear light unit ..... it has a connection behind the dash - but not working at all.

The horn is not connected - don't know if that stops the brake light circuit working.

Have been looking at the samba wiring diagram & found general dashboard wire photos.
Think it could be the 8 wire block ?!!

  4. Don't know if this is any help but when I was messing about with wiring behind the dash I found an unconnected wire (and no-where for it to go) that was 12v engine off but no volts when running, a bit like an oil light might be. After a bit of research I think it's meant to be a brake pressure warning light but the bulb holder had been removed on mine and used for something else.
    Good luck!

  5. Thanks for the messages. We now have not only a working brake light, but indicators, hazards & side lights......
Happy times. We might even go all out... & add a reversing light switch!!!!
