The fabric for the R&R is rolled out and unfortunately I can’t match the stripes with the ones on the cushion over the engine. I bought the cushion and cover already made so it’s out of my hands! 00A42411-8F7D-4E78-A049-09831824051F.jpeg
My mum has kindly volunteered her skills to sew the corners into the new covers. Thanks Mum! Xxx

while I’m waiting for even more coats of varnish to dry I jump to another job yet again!!

I fitted oil pressure and temperature guague ages ago, but came up against a wall when I realised that the senders are a bit of a pain on a type4 motor. I googled and yahoo’d And it seems that there are a few ways to skin the old cat..
The temp sender involved a new taco plate from boatyard buses which is a beautifully made bit of kit. The pressure sender involves a stainless flexible hose with an adapter mounted on the bulkhead. The picture below shows the standard oil pressure switch with the cable and rubber boot removed C40B19A4-4D3B-46F0-BF93-2B9B57C1DD1B.jpeg

The kit comes with an adapter to suit the Vw crankcase. There is a washer with a rubber insert that goes between the case and adaptor. I torqued the adaptor to 10Nm.

A P clip secures the senders to the bulkhead. All that is left to do is fire the bus up and check for leaks but I’m out of time so will have to wait for another day!

174ED80B-3BD2-45A7-BE5F-95BC1A12A8EC.jpeg It’s relatively easy fitting the gauges but the wiring is another matter! Not the connections as that’s pretty straight forward but the routing of the cables causes much scratching of the bonce! As I’m trying to think ahead I thought a multi core cable would be a good idea And I’ve got a big drum of 12 core in the stores. This should sort the oil temp and pressure gauges, the Fire system, voltage gauge, and leave a few spare for future upgrades. So anyway I’ve routed it under the van and secured it with P clips and grommets through the body.

Oh and I’ve made a start on cleaning that overspray off but what a drag that is!

I get round to fitting the last bits of the westy wood trim at the back. Does anything live in the space between the wardrobe, the mattress and the back door?

Another little job is to fit the cupboard handles. These are repro ones from NLAVW and are pretty good but I use the plungers from the old handles to save cutting them to length.

So my mum is busy so I push on with the R&R bed now the varnishing is finally done for now! New foam is spray glued on to the boards and the new material laid over the top and marked. Then it’s out with the needle and thread I’m afraid! No sewing machine here...
