This is an average campsite - it is effectively a large and open field some pitches are hard standing others are grass, shower blocks are good & clean, there is a small kids play area, the shop is exceedingly basic. Having said that we have been a couple of times now and will go again.

BUT what this campsite has to offer is location!

You are 1/2 a mile(ish) walk from Conkers Forest and visitors centre (http://www.visitconkers.com/) which Freya absolutely loves (first time we camped here we went in all three days!), the water on the barefoot walk is decidedly cold and remember a towel to dry your feet, and there is so much to see and do - indoor play area, outdoor play area, walks, wildlife, varying activities over the holidays etc.

You are less than 10 miles from Twycross zoo (http://www.twycrosszoo.org/home.aspx) which we have been to a few times now with Freya and she really enjoys.

There is also a youth hostel at the end of the drive to the campsite which has a very reasonably priced bar and also serves food & being a youth hostel, they are happy for kids to be there and running around (in or out depending on weather).

From the campsite you can get onto the National Cycle routes network (Sustrans) without having to go onto the roads and there is a nice ride around the edge of Conkers Forest and the nearby reservoir (around 7 - 8 miles) that we have done (had a small section on the road, but we walked along the footpath with her as she was 5/6 at the time). There are loads of cycle routes that are well marked.

We haven't been but it is around 15 miles to Bosworth Battle fields / visitors centre and there is also the Hicks Lodge Cycle centre (http://www.nationalforest.org/visit/index.php?control=main&action=location&LocationId=3297), which is on our list to go to but haven't quite made it (less than 3 miles away).

    Freya's review (aged 7 1/2)

    "I am bonkers for Conkers!!!"

    Hope that helps :)
