  1. Wee write up about our trip to Skye.

Dalgety Bay - Ardeonaig Loch Tay - Ben Nevis Fort William - Portree Isle of Skye

    Travelled 840 km / 521 miles

Average oil temp 110. Max temp 120 on a large hill.

We had a lodge booked for my partners dads 60th at Ardeonaig on the banks of loch Tay for the weekend so took the van up so we could have a weeks holiday afterwords. Amazing lodge & great banter.

Weather was superb, probably the best weeks weather they had seen all year. I washed the van & cleaned the windows on the Saturday and did a wee photoshoot as the scenery was perfect. I also fitted a VW sticker to the front wheel cover.

On the Monday we drove to Ben Nevis Camp site Fort William walked round to the pub for a pint & had dinner. Next day we walked along the river heading to the falls.

We then drove round the Nevis range and gif the gondola ride up to see the most amazing views. It was as warm up the top as it was down the bottom with no wind which is strange.
We had a picnic at the bottom outside the van.

We then drove to the Isle of Skye stopping at ashaig campsite for the night. Not the best experience due to the midgies. We couldn't really leave the van and when I stupidly opened the door they all got it and assembled along the roof so spent half the night trying to get them all before they got us. The view of the islands and applecross we expected weren't there as we were tucked in the campsite and none of the pitches had a view it was pretty much someone's house with pitches round the garden.

Off to Portree next to stay at torvaig campsite a nice airy spacious site and really friendly. We loaded a picnic and got the local bus into town and did the coastal walk, spotted two sea eagles along the way which was awesome.

Bought a poke of chips on the way back as a treat and sat eating them over looking the Portree bay.

Driving home we stopped at strathyre for the night as the drive would have been a bit long.

    Toast & cereals
Haggis, potatoes & Heinz chilli beans
    Chicken salad
    Marinated Salmon potatoes & salad
    Sausages and aldi sliced potatoes

    Rice puddings, fruit, yogurts, custard.

    Sweets , crisps , cheese & crackers & Nutella.

Have you tried something called Jungle Formula? I was out repointing a garden wall when the little baskets began attacking. A few sprays on the arms and rubbed onto face and ears and not one bite at all after that. There was a dense cloud of them hovering round my cement mixer (they love yellow for some reason) and I waved my head around in this cloud and still not a single bite. Magic stuff, I would highly recommend it.

  7. Yeah we have all the mozzie and midgie lotions, I got put off them when my knee was pressed up a metal bar on an old bus and it stripped the paint off the bar. What is it doing to our bodies ?

  8. Yeah we are lucky just be able to jump in the van and have done great camping within an hour or so. Just got the propex set up ready for the colder weather. Just need to bore the vent holes in my new interior :(
