  1. Hello again

Sooo, putting the 1973 Bay jigsaw back together and soon will be moving onto the engine (which also came in various boxes) the distributor which came with it is a Bosch unit. Marked with - 0231129010 JFR4.
Does anyone know if this is correct or compatible with a 1600 tp engine? Engine code is AS. (Ibelieve that this engine originated from a Beetle.
The carb supplied is a Solex 34 PICT -3, which I hope is also correct?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Cheers
    John

The carburettor is correct. : however it may have been bodged and need gently unbodging.

The Bosch distributor is compatible with your engine, however it may not be the best for the application in a bus, as it does not have vacuum advance for torque from a standing start, needed more in a 2 tonne bus than a 1 tonne Beetle. It is an 010 which advances quicker with engine RPM than the often used 009 for sportier Beetles..

You may be able to market it on eBay and persuade somebody to part with more than enough cash to pay for the electronic replacement as it is cast iron and black and cooler looking, with a reputation. Or keep it and get on the road and replace it after that pesky Nissan Micra left you standing at the lights. ( with an SVDA you will almost keep up )

The Powerspark "034" or "205" SVDA is a better match for the bus but may suffer from quality issues, the bus will run better with it, just its not as well made( or as worn out ) as a Bosch original SVDA.

You may also have the matter of sourcing an air cleaner compatible with the bus, with a vacuum operated hot air flap in the air intake and a hot air hose coming from near the cylinder head. Not a shineey EMPI pancake as often fitted to look cool.
If your air filter is wrong either you will have hesitation on cold and damp days or poorer fuel economy with sooty spark plugs.
