  1. hi
I was thinking of ditching my points and condenser what is everyone take on this, worth doing?

If so will my bus run better?

Also which one do you recommend?

  2. Best 70 quid i spent on the bus .... ever

I ran a Bosch 009 and fitted a Pertronix lecky module which was on the van for 15+ without any problems .

I decided i needed to try an SVDA dizzy so bought an accuspark with module for about £60 which improved the pick up from idle no end .
No issues but others have , do a search , luck of the draw i suppose . I do carry a spare module though ...

    :hattip:

  3. Yep. Do it - but don't chuck your points away because if it fails it will fail completely. I've been running Powerspark on my bus for 3 years with nothing but positive experiences but points and condenser are in the tool bag just in case.

  4. I have a spare dizzy which I got with my engine rebuild bits from Vw Heritage so that is always on the bus as back up so if I stick electronic ignition I leave the dizzy all ready in the bus just in case

There are some very good electronic modules, however if you can afford then a 123 is the dogs danglies.

  6. Yes, well worth it. It won't compensate for other faults in your bus, tho' - don't expect any magical transformation.

Same here. I have the points and condenser in the bus. I destroyed one Pertronix with a red/black wire swap.
One Accuspark went wierd and became a 2500 rpm rev limiter .
The one I have now has done about 30k miles.

Trouble is with Chinese SVDAs often paired with electronic modules is they feel zippier because they advance more easily. Make sure you check it for 28-30 degrees advance at 3000 rpm with the vacuum hose off and blocked at the carb, rather than insisting on 7.5 degrees at idle.. otherwise your engine may not last too long.

  10. Used to be a big fan of points, but the quality of them isn't so hot nowadays- at least at last check.
For £40 (accuspark module) it's one of the best modifications that you can do to your bus.

If you do swap the whole dizzy make sure you replace the rotor arm and cap with a good quality one, the ones they come with are made of cheese ! and are not fit for the other side of snotty's fence ! found this out while on holiday !

Petronix kit fitted in bus for 12 years. Fitted it and never touched it since.
Acuspark svda fitted in daily driver bug for 3 years. Fitted it and never touched it since. Win win

  13. accuspark For the last 3 years. As already said, the best money I’ve spent on mine.

  14. I had an Accuspark with my 1600 for 3 or 4 years - no problems at all. (Then I went Scooby)

  15. I have a petronix and can highly recommend it - been on the bus for about 5 or 6 years.

    Fit, adjust, forget.
