Evening all, Finally got into the Aircooled club, after pretending with many h20 dubs. I'm based in Tamworth, staffs - have a wife and two hounds to accompany me on my adventures. Had "Flossy" (1973) for about two weeks now and made the drive home from Southampton with no worries - but broke down two miles into our first trip. Oops. So has already had a ride on a flatbed. Woe. Simple fix and the garage (absolute VW in Derbyshire) should have her back to me tomorrow. So I thought I say "Hey!" Troy
Welcome to the madness, have you got your essentials, I.e. Bentley and Haynes manuals? What was your problem and have you checked your fuel lines? I was in mine last week got up in the morning and thought what's that smell a look underneath revealed a steady drip of fuel. A couple of hours messing and new fuel lines and filter fitted. All good fun
Welcome. Learn all you can and do all you can yourself. It's not too difficult. Keep up with the maintenance and the bus won't let you down.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm lucky enough to have spent some time as a mechanic in my youth, so aside from being a little new to the type one engine I don't feel that there is much I couldn't handle if push comes to shove. I don't want to do a rebuild or anything but I could if I had to. Same goes for bodywork, but I plan on picking up a welding course this sept so that I can fab and fix my bus. All good stuff really - love tinckering. I currently work full time at Halfords and I am also training to be a sparky. So I think I'm well postioned to handle a classic bus - aside from having any time!! Lol. AbsVW will have hopefully managed all of the big tasks (and fixed any previous bodge jobs) first time around and given her an appraisal and me a list of things to fix. I shall find out today. Thanks Troy
