So, what's the list of possibilities (realise it's wide open) if a type one has oil sitting over most of the underside? No, it's not mine, just getting into learning newbie mode
Not stating the obvious, but its either oil leaks or a breather problem, with a breather problem it will blow oil out every where. It could be down to indervidual leaks ,push rod tubes ,sump plate, rear oil seal, case joint, oil pump.
When the owner is driving oil could look like it's coming out of a place not at fault due to air movement or by it being spat somewhere. Get underneath and clean off as much oil as possible. Run the van in situe for 15 mins. Repeat this process about 3 times. The curprit will still be oily.
I don't have a photo of underneath the engine in question, but do have of the "top", which looked comparatively clean ... Will try to post.
so if the above pic DOES come across as "clean" compared to a black underside, is that the breather side of things off the list?
Don't think so ... I've seen that elsewhere and it was apparently something to do with the widget that sends the oil "back in" being "back to front" ?!!
Thanks ... but it's not mine, it's just one I've seen and I thought it would make good fodder for basic question time
