Frannie from California

  1. Hello everybody,

I just got a Westfalia from California, a 1979, 2.0l GE engine, automatic box. It was imported in 2010 in UK and will now hopefully live a long life with me and my family here in the south France.

It drove fairly well considering it was a 900 miles trip over a 2 days journey, but misfiring happens around 60-70 mph. I suppose it could be many things, timing, injection, dirt, I'll have to explore all those tracks I suppose.

I have dug up your forum a little and it is great, I am a complete newbie with T2b, but I have owned a couple of LTs which I restored also. I'm planning into giving Frannie a lot of love, I'll always search before asking anything stupid.

    Thanks for welcoming me.

    All the best.

  15. I have a California 76 2.0 fi and have now owned for 6 years. I have had the odd misfire and is usually due to the fuel filter being partly blocked. Suggest you change this first and make sure you have the correct fi filter (square one and not a low pressure round carb one). The filter is under the van infront of back wheels and next to fuel pump and suggest proper fuel line clamps. Welcome and good luck with the van.

  16. Hi @AndyC, indeed, same bus, yours is still in its original color actually, will have to revert to Beige Mexico sometime. Loving the automatic box ! Will definitely keep you posted, I might even open a thread on Frannie rebuild if that is correct to do so.

  17. Thanks, yes I have the rounded one I'm pretty sure, top of the chain is definitely the way to proceed. Thanks for the advice, the fuel tank might be quite swamped with filth also, I understand that the engine has to be dropped to access it, but the engine has to go at some stage anyway. I'm ordering the square one, it's a good first step. Cheers.

  18. You've gotta now, welcome, nice bus, we know all about you on here :thumbsup:

  19. Welcome from West Lancashire - very brave of yo to go all the way to the South of France in an unknown vehicle. I did the trip from here for the first time in 1983 ( well to Frejus in fact but we did go to Nice for the day) in a 1979 Morris Marina
