Front beam chassis mounting repair - anyone done it?

  1. Just been underneath my bus and the inside of where the front beam mounting bolts attach to the chassis is corroded. Anyone tackled this repair?

Will try and get a better one in the light, but you can see it's the rear of the mounting bolt.

  4. Mine was this rotten on one side :(

I cut all the rot out and remade the inner and bottom of the chassis leg. Luckily the beam mountings were still OK.

    Flakey likes this.
  5. It's around the lower beam mounting in your picture that's corroded.

I would think getting the mounting holes in the right place would be the hardest
Slightly out and the steering suspension etc would be out
Maybe make a jig before you cut

  7. Or bolt the beam mountings to the beam and tack everything in place, then remove the beam and final weld it all.
I was lucky that the bit of the chassis that curves over the axle tube was OK so i could weld it all up with the beam in.
