Looking good Clive. I looked at this, but didn't do it in the end.. upper roof needs to fold over so if you added some thickness you'd need to engineer some bigger hinges, otherwise it won't close properly.. but. if you have bigger hinges then the folding part will hit the roof and won't flop over properly. Lower bed you have the pad over the engine which needs to match up to the height of the seat when it's reclined, and the r&r bed may not work properly as a seat if the foam is too thick. I gave up on this idea in the end as i couldn't improve on the OEM design.
I was thinking about that on the upper mattress..the lower one can be thickened a little more and shaped so its can be folded correctly, seen one in Sweden that had thicker foam.
yep, could be do-able with some thought as to the shape of the foam where the two halves of the bed are close when its in "seat" configuration. Either that or look at some sort of topper? https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7203915
Good stuff! Once its all painted it will go to the car upholsterer and Im sure he will make a plan,he is amazing at what he can do.Was at his shop and he showed me some of his work. In Sweden the Amcar scene is bigger than the Dubbers scene,I have been to a few shows and seen some amazing cars. I dont think I will make the Bugrun show here but always next year!
Gets rid of induction roar, makes the motor quiet.Believe me how the noise annoyed us on our trip to Croatia...i want a quiet but powerful bus and I will get it! Oh and it looks cool too! I think the combination of dynamat everywhere and the CSP airbox will be perfect..
Strange that you have so much induction roar; my engine is similar except I have a Scat C25 cam and 30mm vents but I don’t have any induction noise to be concerned about. To need 9:1 CR your JPM cam will have a lot more duration and maximum torque will be at much higher revs so I guess you just rev the engine more than I do, hence the noise.
The guy came albeit a bit late, after he finished we had to just wheel it back into the garage and head off on our easter holiday in Norway. Looks good! Just a little grinding and it gets handed over to the welder and then paint. Got him to do the noisey cupboard too!
No,its very dry in my heated garage. After i got the doors blasted they sat for a few days and didnt show any signs of rust developing.
Finally got all the paint off and the bus is now at the welders,he will fit the doors and make sure all the body gaps are good. I am leaving to go back to sea,we are doing some exploration off Trinidad, fly to Port of Spain on the 18th.The welder now can take his time to do the rest of the body. I had a look at the doors and he is doing a good job.He cuts out the rust and fully welds in new plates and grinds the welds so they are mostly invisible. The plan is that the least amount of body filler will be used. I will not be able to check in here but once im back i will carry on with this thread. Its a nice feeling knowing that the build is carrying on while im at work.
So a long time with no updates...due to the extreme heat we had this summer the welder asked if he could wait till it cooled down,I agreed because I didnt want any rushed work. All the doors are done and ready for paint, both rear fenders,RHS rear quarter, both front door fenders and footsteps and window frames done. I will let the pics do the talking: Not too much welding left to do,he told me the bus will be delivered for paint before the new year! I am currently working off the coast of Rio but will be home in the new year to help the painter prep for primer and paint.
