Gas drop out vent

  1. I thought I had better start sorting Bertie's interior.

I need to put in a floor vent in the right hand cupboard and wondered what size and type of vent you suggest.
Also does any one know of a guide that gives details of where all the cross members are to save me keep getting underneath and then back in camper with my tape measure!
My unit has a floor in it with air gap underneath, so I presume I will need some form of trim/ducting that heads downwards through cabinet floor, air space, flooring vinyl, ply flooring, noise killer, bus floor, outside air space and then side belly pan! ( Or am I okay to let it vent out above belly pan?)
Also would you drop gas pipes for external propex and BBQ point through vent or put separate holes in?
    Cheers

There are quite s few cents for sale on eBay. Some by what looks like a camper conversion place. You could ask them about the sizes etc. They may be able to give handy hints :)

  3. That looks good, what cooker and sink did you get?

  4. It's a spinflo/thetford cooker. I like my toast and crumpets. I also wanted to keep the camper looking reasonably dated and therefore didn't want the glass topped style ones!
The sink I got from some guy off eBay pressing them out for about £15 I think:). Simply a stainless bowl with hole in bottom. The tap is separate and fitted through the shelf.

  5. Nice cooker.... looks familiar! (Careful not to burn the handle on the grill pan.) did it to mine first time i used it? Grrrr!

  6. Who did the unit for you? Nice and practical and not too fussy!

  7. Karl at Madmatz. I gave him my cooker and sink with sketches of my thoughts for a kitchen unit. He then did the cnc drawings from that.
I've also got porta potti buddy seat, bed front panel and head banger unit but they were all pretty much standard.

I don't know about floor plans showing location of cross members etc (ask @Lasty and @Dazza as we drilled at least 3 pilot holes trying to avoid things when installing my propex at the last techenders!!) but I do know that my drop vent in the gas bottle cupboard has a pipe that exits through the belly pan. It was already there when I bought the van so nothing that I've done myself, but yes I think you will have to pipe all the way through everything unfortunately.

  9. Thanks Sarah. Yes was just wanting to avoid unnecessary holes in my floor:( guess I will need to find a reference point that is above and below and do lots of measuring! oh that's going to be a long vent if going through belly pan as well.
I also want to put another hole in for the sink waste too which will definitely need to go through belly pan. Gonna look like a collander by time I've finished!

  10. If you put a vent in the cupboard bottom and one in the floor. As long as the unit base is sealed to the cargo floor then that void is effectively a sealed ventilated duct. Lpg is heavier than air so will sink out of this enclosure. I would have thought there's no need for a dedicated pipe/duct.

  11. Nice unit just the sort of thing I want for the paravan
May I ask how much it cost?

  12. I have not fitted one, as I too am loath to cut holes in the bus.
The only time the gas is selected on is when we use the hob, the rest of the time its off when we drive or sleep.
We have been camping in the bus for the last 41 years with no ill effects.

  13. I carry a 4.5kg gas bottle in the van but only use it outside with my double hob/grill.

When it's in the van it's sealed with the screw on handle, do I still need a drop vent or such like?

  14. I am going to be running a propex so can't do that especially as my plan is to heat screen and cab whilst driving!
My camper will not fully comply with regs as the bottle will not be in a sealed cupboard, but I would definitely like to have somewhere for the gas to exit the camper if it ever does leak!

  15. That's just like carrying it in a car to go on a camping holiday. No pipe work to leak, so guessing not.

  16. That's a thought! It would make it easier to install as I would not have to bore through everything in line. And can do the floor one to miss the chassis cross members and then do the cupboard one to suit gas bottle location.
I guess I can bed the cabinet on a bead of silicon to seal it. Are there gas resistant ones, I wonder?
According to the useful gas reg thread on here, I need a minimum 10000mm2 vent. So if my rusty school boy calculations are correct ( I knew I would find a use for them eventually!) I need a circular vent of at least 113mm id or more practically two of 56.5mm id.

  17. 10000mm2 seems rather a lot. You sure it's not 1000mm2?

ah yes, my mistake... the vent has a pipe heading downwards through the floor, but there is actually just a hole in the belly pan below it - not actually a connected pipe as such.

  20. 2% of cupboard floor area (which works out around 4000mm2 ) or 10000mm2 whichever is greater.
