Hi, I’m Dan and I am 35 living in Essex. After dreaming of owning a bus since I was 18 I’ve finally bought one after visiting Busfest. I pick it up in a few weeks but have bought a 1979 Danbury bus which looks to be in good shape. I have just scared myself about engine fires though so will be changing all the fuel lines as soon as I get her home. On the 200 mile trip back I plan to take a 2kg co2 extinguisher and a 2 litre foam extinguisher for peace of mind (can anyone recommend any other precaution?). Once home I think I’ll need to replace the fuel tank sender as at half full tank the gauge drops off to nothing. That looks a fun job... Then I’ll aim to get to a few meets near me, can anyone recommend good meets near Colchester please? I look forward to the ups and downs of owning a VW van Thanks Dan
Hi from sometimes sunny Southend. Can recommend Elemental first meet of the year (April time) held not far from Battlesbridge and Alive & vdubbin near Bury St Edmunds in June and put on by Suffolk Buggers. Check their web site for more local meets etc. Danbury conversions were done not far from Colchester at Danbury and great pop up tops. Friend of mines has had his 25 years. You will soon become a air intake 'sniffer'! I carry a fire blanket as well.
... and from the wet, windy, sunny, snowy ridge of unique weather that is "Cockadilly" in Gloucestershire!
Thanks for the welcome guys. Ok after doing some research I've purchased a fire blanket and am going to get an afff foam 2 litre fire extinguisher for the 200 mile trip home in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I won't need them anyway but if so hopefully they'll be sufficient. When I get back all fuel lines will be replaced and I'll look at adding a shut off solenoid and an automatic gas engine bay extinguisher. Hopefully that will be enough peace of mind and hopefully never needed. Looking forward to bringing the bus home and uploading pictures
