Heritage Coast Campsite

  1. For total transparency I haven't actually staid on this site as yet, I will be soon without a doubt. Saw it for the first time last weekend, it looks very nice and clean.

The reason for the mention is the area its in.

Monknash is a fab location for a campsite, we've staid over night there a few times, mainly the pub carpark or the field of a farmer that turns a blind eye to staying overnight if you put some cash in his honesty box.

The surrounding area is brilliant, the local beach is accessed via a short walk through a wooded Glen following a stream that leads to the sea. Being along the Heritage Coast its backed by dramatic cliffs, its mainly a pebble beach until the tide goes out, so it can be a bit of a clamber but this helps keep it quiet and peaceful, it rarely gets busy. Its great for most beach activities including Sea Angling if thats your bag.

The local pub, 'The Plough and Harrow' is one of the best in South Wales, its been in just about every published Top 10 Pubs in Wales list and even made on to the Guardians Top 10 Pubs in Britain list, its been Camra Pub if the year a few times, and hasn't left the Good Beer Guide in years. It does very good unpretentious pub food, a great selection of Real Ales and Ciders, the pub alone is worth a Visit even without staying over.

A few miles along the coast is Llantwit Major, which boast a few more pubs all pretty good and a Beach with a Carpark. In-between the two is a Lighthouse with decent views from the cliffs. Theres a load of decent hikes all over the area, and plenty more to keep you occupied.

Its one of my favourite places in Wales so now there's a proper Campsite I thought its worth adding to the list for place for folks to visit. Next time your heading to West Wales, do a stopover, break up the journey and see what you think.
