Once i find the valves i'll be replacing the ones on this tank as its still in great condition. Removed the plugs to check the gaps and they are rusty as hell. Just put an order in with JK for some Bosch W8AC ones plus a load of bits for my bug resto.
Think it's gonna have to have a complete front including inner valance, deformation panel, A pillars and inner screen. About £600 for an imported body cut from FBI vw at Swansea. Cab floor is still fine apart from the bits that I repaired where it meets the cab step but arches are shagged too and front chassis legs have been repaired. A complete front from the B posts forwards including the chassis legs would be ideal. Missed out on one from a rear ended scrap van a while back.
Just found this from fbivw on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272467081636?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT Looks like it could solve a lot of my westys rust problems in one go. Just a little bit out of my price range though.
FBI sometimes take the p*ss with their prices, though I don't call that too ridiculous . Compared to when I was forced to buy one cab door from there - it hurt to hand over what I did for a dented panel
That seems to be about the going rate for stuff like that. I've got a similar cut for my early on it's way over from the states Sent from my XT1072 using Tapatalk
There doesn't appear to be any other firms who import complete fronts. Looks like i'll need chassis legs from the front beam forwards too plus the arches, wheel tubs and cab floor. Looking at about £1500 for a body cut from B pillar forwards though including the chassis going by the last one i saw for sale.
Check with Barry at lonestar VW, he brings quite a bit of stuff in Sent from my XT1072 using Tapatalk
The front end had quite a beating before either got it and the filler is all cracked and has been for about 4 years. So water will have been getting in and sitting in there. I've found what I believe is a good cut in original paint. If that is so, then I want to have that to hand before I get stuck in and dig all the bad filler out. I'll have a pretty tight timeframe to get whatever I end up doing done so if it does need a panel change I can't be looking about and waiting to find one then. Sent from my XT1072 using Tapatalk
Managed to get a hour or so on my westy today while the weather was warmish and dry. Got a donor patch welded in to the deformation panel, seam sealed it and gave it a coat of bonda primer.
Split charge wiring now finished and clipped out of the way. Wired this solar regulator in too. Poked a hole in the inner sill while doing my pre MOT checks. Rear most outrigger on passengers side is 'soft' too. Not sure whether to repair if of just replace.
