  1. Wow - you were lucky with that - the inner one on mine was crumbly rust as well and it had gone back into chassis rails and battery tray!

Luckily, that was the limit on the valance!

  3. This is probably your worst bit mark

You're going to have a lot of dust in the back of those speakers by the time you're finished Mark :p

Don't worry, that's the image FBI VW emailed me last week - I'm not doing any bus related work till next week :)

Awesome work, and glad the pictures are working. It's surprising how a resto thread seems flat, without pics.
Anyway when you fitted the outer rear valance did you plug weld, drilling holes first?

Yes we did, exactly that! From memory we drilled about 50mm apart, it wasn't too much different to the previous plug welds (which we think are/where original).

Back on track and we have got the inner screen panel lined up correctly, welded in and some paint on the door pillars

the front panel lines up nicely with the inner screen panel, which is a relief.

Before we refit the airbox and front panel, I hope to swap the heater cable, tidy the wiring up and recommission the heated rear screen switch.

I feel like we are back on track :)

Got quite a few odds and ends done this past couple of weeks, heated rear window switch replaced and sorted..working as it should

Dashtop repainted, Rev Clock and Oil Pressure gauge wiring tidied up in sleeving, nice and neat

The replacement airbox is from an earlier bay, possibly up to 1975 - the steering column support plate was different, couple of holes drilled to line up with the ones on the airbox and we're sorted

Got the new airbox mounted and lined up with the inner windscreen panel, couple of runs of weld once it was lined up okay & its looking something like reasonable again. Lick of black rustoleum, sorted!

Front panel is now on and spot welded on the airbox, windscreen lip and bottom lip. Progress!
