Got the rear kick panels installed today, though the heater vents outlets don't quite match the holes in them. Also fitted a socket under the dash to plug my 1970s window mounted parking light into.
Bolted an earth crown into place so i have something to attach all the earths to. Fitted the fresh air box too and managed to get it working as it should. Still can't find the front seatbelts i took off my old 1303. They were about one of the only things worth saving. I found a pair of inertia reel off my dads maestro which won't fit the B pillar as they're too big. The rear ones have no stalk just a flexy strap. A pair of rear ones off my Nova which were chewed up my mice. A pair of belts which won't retract and a pair of Reliant static lap belts and stalks. None of which can be mixed and matched as they all have different shaped buckles. I have got the mounting brackets off the 1303 though. Looks like its something else i'll have to ad to the needed list.
Air box fitted with some hose connectors made from underlay. Just needs a couple of cable ties to hold them in place.
Zip tied the hose things into place. Not particularly pretty but they should hold them nicely. Sanded the rear valance and had a go at it with some compound. Before: After. Now with reflections. Painted some paint stripper onto the peeling lacquer on the rims of my EMPI 8 replicas. Says to leave an hour but its probably not gonna make any difference so im leaving them overnight.
Found this plastic AA first aid kit box. Its a bit too modern for my liking so on the lookout for one of these 70's metal tins instead.
Well leaving paint stripper on over night just makes it dry and refuse to come off. The few small bits that did show lovely shiny ally underneath the lacquer though. Hopefully painting some more on will soften it enough to scrub off.
Put more paint stripper on and tried scrubbing with a wire brush after an hour. Stuff from yesterday is being a right PITA and refuses to come off with a wire brush as its too rubbery. Not sure what to do next. Both brands of paint stripper i've tried barely made a dent in the lacquer so not sure what to use to remove it.
i would cover them in semi gel nitro mores then put them in a plastic bag over night sealed off course
I believe theres 2 types of nitromors now. I've tried the one in the green bottle and i might as well have used washing up liquid. Can't find my old bottle of the stuff (the one before all the H&S bull that removed skin and burned your eyes from the fumes.) Not sure how much of the lacquer was removed with the 2 applications but i'll probably just give them a sand with 300 grit or something then go finer and finally polish the lips.
Stuck the EMPI 8 from the front onto the rear to see how much space there is. Hopefully it'll come down a little with the weight of the engine and back bumper fitted as theres a fair bit of wing gap and slight positive camber which makes the top of the tyre stick out past the arch a little. Fitted the chrome trim up the centre of the bonnet to get it out of the way too.
Made a template from cardboard for the profile of the ends of the rear parcel shelf. Gonna probably be made from 12mm hardwood plywood as that or MDF are the only sheet materials i can find locally unless i want to buy an 8ft x 4ft sheet.
Klaxon. For some reason i can only find one and i'm sure theres 4 hiding somewhere. Test fitted bumper mounts and headlights. Can't find the headlight mounting screws (or one of the plastic bits that holds the headlight bulb in).
Standard horn fitted on the passengers side. Still missing a good indicator base and the previously missing plastic headlight bulb holder has a broken connector on it.
