    So, the head studs unscrewed
The heat riser blanking plates holes were about 1mm out
The flanges wouldnt lign up with the heads
And those donut clamps, I need 3 hands for them.
All resolved with very bad language.
And a drill, penetrating oil, brute force and patience.

    Beer time, again!

    Feel your pain.

    Recently done the same job.

I thought I'd cracked it until I went to refit the rear tin.

Those pod things wouldn't line up with the holes in the rear tin. The rear tin didn't line up with the fron tin.

I had to loosen everything and gently tap it all around with a rubber hammer until it all lined up.

    Happy with it now though.

  4. Loosely fit everything, then tighten it all up together. Main culprits are heat riser holes and tubes through the tinware. Absolute swine of a job, especially since the new exhausts only last 2 years... The originals lasted 40, but what can you do.

  5. ^this: loosen everything. You may find everything's out of its (original) place, because someone's bent stuff in the past to make an EMPI exhaust fit.

  6. They are horrendous - I had to use lengths of red Bull cans to join the heat exchangers to the feed from the exhaust - works well as same diameter - could not bridge the gap otherwise

  7. Do you mean the "pods" on the top?

  8. Yes there was about a 1" gap despite loosening everything etc - been fine for over a year

  10. All that faff was yer own fault for taking a perfectly good Monza 4-tip off, in the first place!

I've had one on my (bug-based) kit-car for the last 20 odd years, with no problems at all. Its solid as rock. Great product.

Nahh, the sweariest job is replacing the bottom fuel pipe through the paint lid opening on a 1600. Pretty certain that is the winning sweary job

You have never cut the wreckage of ball joints out of the suspension with a hacksaw. There are many worse jobs.
