Propex install under the drivers seat

  1. Wow, great use of space. I measured mine up earlier with a view to sticking some speakers in there but this is a much better idea!

I've now done one of these, the only thing I temporarily cocked up was I had it too high - Kruger has swivel seats. On RHD it would only fit under drivers seat due to the pipe configuration and drivers seat hangs down at the rear for the backrest adjustment which clashed with the heater until I remade the brackets and fitted it lower.
Like kruger I routed the exhaust via the wheel arch, through the outrigger near the chassis then ended up pointing outwards behind the jacking point. Very neat. The inlet went through the tub (existing hole) and made it's way into the rear centre belly pan.

Please nobody ask me to do another, it's a lot of work and DIY is the way forward to avoid a silly bill or me working for nothing (as it happens).

@zed I think your solution of stealing some of the space taken up by the spare wheel well and fitting the heater in the engine bay is the best solution all round. I just wish you'd written about it BEFORE I'd fitted mine inside the van.

great idea, i put mine in the westy wheel cupboard behind the seat as i didn't want to waste the space under my bed, this is an awesome idea though well done.

Decided to make a bracket for it to sit on from some cable tray cover I had lying around...

Used some scrap to pack out the 'saddle' so the heater sits level

Interestingly I managed to get the unit in without chopping the side out.

Measure twice, drill once. Oh no, drill twice! Got away with it though!!

That's it so far. I was nervous, but it popped in so easily. I plan to hold it down onto the saddle by making a strap to go over the heater and I need to drill a couple of holes so that I can access the screws that hold the access cover on to the heater unit. After that I just need to cut the hole for the hot air outlet, but I need to get a smaller one than came with the kit I think.

Well happy with the process, it took just 2 hours to do all the metalwork.

Thanks very much to @Kruger for the inspiration
