Recommend a solar panel

  1. Going to finally install a solar panel.

The LB mainly runs the 200W stereo, and 6 or 7 USB gadgets when not on hookup.

So, what solar panel do you have, and do you recommend I get the one you have? And can you put a link on this post please.

I know there's loads to read about, but given up making up my own mind. Thought I'd just ask you guys if youre happy with yours, and I'll just get that.

FYI, I will probably wire it loose, not fix to the roof. I already have a controller that I bought from aliexpress. Happy for you to recommend I buy special ones, if that matters.

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn’t like to say which type of panel you should get (if you’re not actually fixing it to the roof then I guess a rigid panel is an option, as well as the semi flexible type that most of us have glued in place) or how many watts you need for what you run, but I would recommend that when buying you consider Photonic Universe as the supplier.... their customer service has been outstanding in my dealings, and the fact that they are based in the UK and actually answer their phone is a huge plus point. I have no complaints.

In the ideal case get two panels. If you arent gluing them down I would avoid flexible ones unless you are totally sure you can store them without hard edges under them or stuff falling on them as the cells can crack.
The rigid ones are heavier as they have a toughened glass front surface amd a frame.
They are also better when they get really hot as the air flowing behind them helps cooling...if they are 20% efficient then up to 80% goes into heat. A 100 watt panel is therefore trying to get rid of 400 watts of heat. Which either heats up the interior of the bus or is blocked by thermal insulation making the panels get too hot to work on a hot day.

  4. Ive got a solid one fixed in an ali frame, cant remember where I got it, Its 2 years old now. My cheapo 3 way fridge sucks electricity. Today in the glorious sunshine my leisure battery was 13.8v with the fridge on 12v DC. Thats what it is when the fridge is off :)

It looks a bit naff but works very well.
