respray - what should i expect to see

  1. ok so ultimately a change of colour before anyone says it! But trying to keep an eye on the the van at various stages.

i think i was expecting to see it all back to shiney metal. But the guys said he is struggling to get paint off and now seems to be covering the panels all in body filler. Is this right?
it looks smooth and is taking shape, but i really have no ideas

Any pics? Unless you asked for a full bare metal respray and are paying top dollar I suspect most body shops would just sand back to primer and paint over that (probably the better route as factory primer is usually good quality). Some amount of filler is usual to get the thing straight.

Back to metal is best (just to see what's underneath) but costly. Hopefully the filler is just a thin layer to take out any imperfections

  4. ok i feel better now! although i think filler is going over where still blue (last respray colour). Would primer be white?

  5. sorry no pics might get some soon

  10. I doubt many buses get taken back to bare metal when they are resprayed.

Mines just in getting a bit of a blast over the 0range where the bits of bodywork have been welded (can’t afford the white at the mo, and window seals are new so it can wait!!); some small bits of filler where the welding needs making pretty and a couple of small dings from shopping trollies, but mostly just keyed properly for the fresh top coat. I would think bare metal is full blown restoration level.

What you should expect to see, is your reflection in a finish which has lot's of depth.

  16. All depends on how much / how good a finish you're paying for to be honest...

I'm doing my own but trying to get a panel flat is difficult !!
Even with a bare metal respray you'd be talking tens of thousands to get a show spec 'flat' van . Expect filler for an average/Good respray...
