Hi guys and gals. I have finished the rebuild of my sliding door and I need to adjust the rod that pulls the back of the door in when you lift the handle. Is it easier to take the assembly off at the hinge end or the handle end. I'm guessing I just need to wind it in the turnbuckle a little more.
It's not actually a turnbuckle as the threads are the same hand. It's just a joining piece. Trial and error... Spin it onto the first end, then join. Try and adjust as needed. You'll need to operate the catch onto the first click, then adjust the rod to pull it in the second click if that makes sense...
Thanks Zed, I need to pull it in more, do I need to take one end of the rod off at either the hinge end or handle end and turn the whole thing so the threaded bar goes further inside the hexagonal piece or does turning the hexagonal piece on its own with the rod connected at both ends pull it up? Hope you get what I mean it's hard to explain.
I think that feature with pulling the door in by lifting the outside handle was abandoned on the late bay's.. or post '73's Would be nice to make it work on later doors though.
I managed to crack it in the end, adjusted the linkage and found the front striker on the door was stopping the second latch engage, it now pulls in at the rear and clicks in.
