  1. Hi peeps
My sliding door is doing my nut as it keeps jumping out when I close it
It seems that the catch is not connecting to the peak for some reason
    any help much appreciated
    Thanks

    Has somebody tried breaking in?
Can't see picture that well on my phone.
The latch can be adjusted to suit. Ease the bolts off and try a different position.

  3. Not broken into
I’ve always had the problem and the only to close it is to push it from the back of the door with a bit of wellie
Trouble is other people shutting it casues the door to pop out
It’s one of them jobs I go back to now and again
I have moved the peak in various positions ahhhhhhhhh

The door might have dropped and need re-shimming. Does it sit in the opening square?

Also is the spring working ok?

You may find that the little roller wheel has worn down, where it runs on the track so the bottom of the door hits the frame when you have the striker on the frame in the right place.
Does the door drop noticeably at the back as it opens?
That is a sign of wear. Also the bronze bushes that the U shaped bracket pivots in at the back can wear down.
I smashed my U bracket by whacking the door shut with worn bushes. The new £155 brackets make a pint of beer in Brighton look like pennies, and the new £20 Brazilian ones dont fit without going at it with a file for hours.

  7. Is that the wheel at the top of the door because that ain’t rolling and there is quite a lot of play in it

No its the wheel that runs on the track under the cover along the side of the bus just below the windows.

The roller on top often siezes on its shaft. If its still round, prop the door undo the three screws holding it on and then separate and clean the roller. If it has distinct flats on it you can buy plastic replacements which you would lubrucate with silicone grease.

If the metal roller is round, clean it then grease it and replace

  9. I think I will have a look at that
I recently replaced the square plastic runner under the cover

  10. It's worth taking the latching mechanism at the rear off the door to free it up and relubricating so it operates freely. Mine had years of old grease making the u part of the latch stiff to turn.
It works surprisingly well and does not wake the campsite.

  11. Looking at your photo @john8591 My striker plate is much further out probably a cm more than yours, I would need a bulldozer to shut mine that far in :)

Does this help? The Striker plate looks about the same distance out as yours.

  14. Day

    Day

I had my sliding door 'fixed' , made to close properly by a friendly Australian I met at a rally.
Surprising the difference the smallest of adjustments can make.
After 2 years the door now sits flush and when you pull the handle up it closes into the body......Wow.

  15. Thanks for the photo and I will pop out later to take a look

  16. mine did the "bounce" thing when i first got it too - you'll be amazed how much difference it makes cleaning out the channels, removing the runner wheels top and bottom (mine were solid with old grease and gunge, clean them with petrol then lube up properly) and ditto make sure your latches are clean and lubed, and remove the cover to clean the rail/nylon block and lube this too. i had to adjust both the front and back of the door (long time since i did it so can't remember 100%) moving both out and iirc there is some vertical adjustment possible too. it's not rocket science, just keep tweaking until you find a position that works.

On my door there seems to be a curve is this right or is the edge damaged in some way
Just thinking as this could be stopping me putting the plate out a little further

  18. That’s the edge of the seal holding channel that’s bent out
Best to carefully try and straighten it

The door seems to be going in a little too far backwards, the catch is hitting the channel and the lock is hitting the end of the striker.
This could be a sagging hinge.
Try lifting the rear edge of the door up with a scissors jack and some padding and wobbling the U part of the hinge. It should not have any slop where it pivots in the casting at the back of the door.
