Pitched up the other day for 5 nights in Norfolk...took us the best part of an hour to get set up..get the awning out, put up and decant all of the crap the two wimmin in my life bring with them whilst the motorhomes pulled up , pulled the hand brake on, plugged the power and water in and away they go..

You can't drive your motor home around town, down the narrow lanes and into height restriction car parks. With a drive away awning you can load it with items from the van and go out for the day without packing absolutely everything away each time.

  6. Cost for a start. Imagine what you could do to your bay for the 40-50k a decent motorhome would cost. Plus size. The word home is very appropriate, some of them are huge.

Is there a thriving motor home scene that doesn't involve other people's wives?

I agree , but tend not to want to leave the camper where it is and either, walk, cycle or use public transport , might be unhooking it and driving further afield tomorrow though

  8. I get where you're going with that, have contemplated the same however I do believe that Jules65 is also right. Sorry not much help there lol.

Yep, the cost Is prohibitive , I spoke to a chap a couple of years back with a brand new T5 California SE with all the extras ..he couldn't answer me when I asked him why he hadnt bought a small motorhome for the same money

Motorhome is a lot of things that the Campervan isn't and visa versa. It's certainly a lot more comfortable and much easier to set up on arrival. It's way kinder to my bad back than the Campervan too. Drawbacks are cost, size, and storage. People still wave at you though.
We use the Bay for VW related stuff and camping with mates. If I could only have one I'd have the Motorhome ;)

I have had this conversation with the current Mrs T and we have agreed that if we were to sell the camper we would go down the caravan route. Basically (unlike the large motorhome), we see the benefits of unhooking the towing vehicle and being able to drive away for the day without having to secure everything away. As much as we have been on trips where we have pitched up and not moved our camper till we had to go home we have also been on trips where we went out nigh on every day and it was a bit of a bind disconnecting the awning and strapping everything down.

We have friends who are caravaners who we go away with regularly (no keys in pots though) and they have started to store their caravans at the site we tend to frequent so when they arrive their caravan has been pulled out of storage and is on plot ready for them to level and use. That way they don't have to tow it and haul all their accoutrements about and setting up is far quicker than us, as is going out for the day.

But you pay your money and take your choice........... so the option is all yours.

  20. Motorhomes in France are usually owned by the elderly ,but it's gets them out and about and I respect them for that...

It dunt matter what takes you on the journey ...:hattip:

I secretly want an old hymer ,just for the view out of the front window...:D
