my only defence is that i was looking at the pics on my phone in the car so was harder to see than i thought. not sure where the CHT is now either, normally they are put under the TS2
no worries, i'll try to look before work one day, trouble is no time or light until next weekend now....
okies couple more pics, unstuck the wire, looks like melted plastic or paint was holding it then this is the 5th injector then? where's the sensor for that? you think i should repair the melted wire see how it goes and if still crap try it disconnected? or won't that make a difference?
As above, have a look on ratwell for a description of what everything does on the injection system. All will become clear.
yep good pics of the ts2. also yes that is the cold start valve CSV or fifth injector, the sensor for that is underneath the air inlet plenum, (the black metal box that all the inlet runners go into. you can just about see it in my pic but i will find a better one
some good pics in this thread on thesamba http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=350908&highlight=tts+picture and more pics of injection stuff here: http://www.ratwell.com/dotmac/Sites/Parts/PhotoAlbum62.html
thanks, i'll have a look on comp later, can't see much on phone, which one is most likely to be the one causing crap cold start? should i check them in some set order or does only one of them cause it?
The samba links are very good and i also have a bentley green service manual, also very good. Temp sensor 2 (the one in the head at cyl. 3 ) can be tested with an ohm meter. at 20deg. C it should be approx. 2500ohm. If the wire is melted then you have to fix the thingsyou know are wrong before worrying about anything else. Also note that the FI systems change from year to year and state to state. My van had a CAT but no O2 sensor. It had an EGR valve but no throttle switch for example. If you do the things i did on mine first then you might be able to make a big improvment without spending big money. Good luck.
Just friggin buy one and see - it'll only cost as much as driving your bus to the end of the road and back. :
i'm trying to work out what bit actually helps it make the cold start work.... i'll fix the wire check all connections then i want to know in which order it's best to replace parts.
as i said i've no problem buying this TS2 thing but so far nobody (unless i missed it) says that is what is making it start crap when cold.
Fix the wire on the ts2 then try it.. If it is dodgy it will affect the starting, however I think there may be a problem with the CSV or TTS. Download the afc trouble shooting manual as it is really easy to follow.
does the connector to the csv get supplied 12v on initial turn of the key? i'm wondering if i pull the connector off and meter it i can see if it's actually doing anything.
It is in circuit with the TTS so if it is cold it will allow the CSV to fire. So yes I think you could but I will double check later for you, in my manual
i'm hoping to have a few ideas to play with on saturday, thing is once it's started the initial crap starting won't happen again until it's cold again. surely disconnecting the csv will make it start crap anyway? it's not gonna make it start better with it off i doubt?
