I'm dying to know what it's like inside

  4. Split it! We must know what's inside.

  6. Heads are no indicator of the health of the bottom end
When I bought my van they told me they had put a fully reconditioned engine in.
All they had done is put new heads on
Less than 500 miles and the bottom end let go☹️

  7. Get it back ;)! Or buy Flakeys.

  8. I'll be fitting the same on mine, are the hella rims plastic like the originals or are they metal?

A fully reconditioned engine it could have been and the bottom end could still let go... ask me how I know

  13. If that case hasent been machined before then it may be salvageable
    Are the standard size bearings?

  15. what bus is the engine from?

It's an engine that came with a bus I bought but it's an UO code 1600 from a type3 I believe!

  17. If it's untouched then a line bore and the thrust cut would bring it back into service
Crank may need a polish if your lucky
If not it will need grinding

If it's been machined before and to max then the case is a door stop☹️

  18. That was the first time it was rebuilt
I went back to the garage I bought it from and they told me to go swivel

    The second time
I paid for it to be rebuilt
it was stripped and the case split and a new crank and bearings went in
No machining to the case though and I ended up with a crank that wobbled around in the case and a thrust bearing that moved nearly 1.5mm

The engine ran and got us round reasonably well for a while

Next it was supposed to be rebuilt by
    Laurie petite
As the case was knackerd a kind member of here sourced me one and sent it up to Laurie
That case went missing whilst it was with Laurie

  20. Fitted my new wosp high torque starter motor :)

Not as hard to do as I thought it might be, only took an hour including tea breaks and searching for elusive tools in my "workshop" :)

It's not cheap but it's a quality bit of kit.
