    Please don’t go to LVH

This was after the 4th engine rebuild by said company

Also ask @PeaSoup and @paradox for their thoughts...

I’ve now gone to Subaru power.

Patrick seemed to give up with the investigation and I assumed someone had told him to stop. From the thread I don’t believe the real reason for the failure was ever discovered and it was probably an unfortunate combination of several things being wrong. Wrong compression ratio, wrong oil pump, wrong oil etc.

Agree. Wrong compression and oil pump. Oil I’d say was fine.

I very much think it was compression as the main culprit.

  12. Stuck me foam back in. New springs tomorrow, if I can summon the courage...

A type 4 engine with a 30mm oil pump 20w/50 was far too thick. Even with a standard 24mm pump 20w/50 is too thick for a fresh engine, but would have worked.

There were not enough dimensions recorded to be sure what the CR was, however, knowing what the engine builder usually does it was more than likely too high. But a too high CR on its own would not have caused the failure – maybe there was zero squish and the pistons hit the head as was mentioned in the thread, but I doubt it. We’ll probably never know.

Well the bonus side of it was I went scooby, which I’m extremely happy about. It’s worked out so much better than I can have imagined.
