  3. I need the engine dropping out and the fuel tank checking over as the first time I filled it it leaked, the second time.... it was fine.
And it needs a once over from someone that knows what they are looking at.

The two closest specialists to me are LVH, about 30 mins up a straight road, or VW workshop at South Shields at about 20/25 minutes away with a lot of junctions/traffic lights etc, ha. That's how I factor driving now.

Or I use the garage that have had the other van and claim to know about aircool'ds, but to be honest the cost for the works (which this forum ha made me question) has been way over what I expected. But maybe my expectations were wrong, I dunno

If you’ve got a type 4 engine I doubt you need to drop the engine to check fuel tank. It’s more than likely a rubber that’s split, take the paint tin lid off and stick a camera in the hole.

  5. I've got a hatch to get in there, but LVH said it was a drop the engine and fuel tank out job, at around/over £400

Yes engine out then if the tank needs checking. But to check the rubbers you can do that by taking paint tin lid off.

When did it leak fuel, when filling up?

  9. First time I brim filled it a load fell on the forecourt. I'm aware of the potential fire situation but it was too late by this point.
Next time I filled it I only half filled it(ish) and didn't blast the fuel in, no issue that time at all.

  11. I'll have a dig around, but it was leaking before it came up to the filler cap, it lost quite a bit to be honest.

I didn't realise until walking back from the shop across the forecourt it was still *******ing out on the floor :(

I suspect it’s a rubber. Get the paint tin lid off and a phone camera inside. Do a video with the light on and you’ll then see.

Try coming to techenders or see if anyone else is nearby and can spend 5 mins looking before spending money. Maybe @pkrboo is near you?

  14. I'm just concerned that putting enough fuel in for the journey to get to techenders or anywhere could cause the same issue

Just half fill it and drive and then top it up.

Also get a video so we can all comment.

To the bus for a drive to the shops.
It went soooo well, with valves checked, new plugs and oil change.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Check the rubber on the breather on the near side... look up above the near side “battery tray” towards the air vent and you’ll see the petrol tank breather pipes connected with a small rubber tube.

That’s just about level with the top of the tank... if you brim it and the rubber is perished it ends up on the floor or a hot heat exchanger :O

  18. ^this. It's a brave man who brims his tank without knowing the state of the filler hoses. Pop the "paint can lid" off and have a feel. Main hose, or the rubber filler elbow.
