Makita palm router... just over a tonne... great investment!!

I use mine in combination with a cheap jigsaw and then tidy up and finish the woodwork accurately after.

Also fitted it up to a router table plate

    Best tool in my shed!

Used to prefer dewalt but they messed up with too many different battery types.

  5. It would help if they didn't change the batteries every five minutes. Just bought a new DeWalt cordless drill. Hopefully, they won't make the batteries obsolete in three months time...

  7. Son of Headbanger finished, apart from a bit of filler and a nice drop of carpet. I would never want to make another one.

  8. Noticed the other week that the foam around the engine bay was looking a little tatty, and by tatty I mean disintegrating before my eyes.

Ordered a new bit of foam from VW Heritage which arrived last week and got around to fixing it today.

For anyone thinking about it, it’s a pretty easy job - just a few tricky spots around the throttle and injector pipes, and, while I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes, I’m sure the van drove that little bit sweeter afterwards.

    My ‘slightly worn’ original foam

Removing the old one, a bit of a tidy up and 30 minutes later the new foam is in.

I didn't get much time on the bus today but did get these pesky little rivets in with my new catch:

And tidied up the outside with a dremel:

  12. Quite bored with doing van stuff, but admit I’m quite chuffed with that. Let’s hope it still fits when I try it again tomorrow. Trying to avoid ribs and stuff in the rear roof is a nightmare.

Do you remove the headlining where the cupboard is?

  14. Replacing the original Devon unit, so there wasn’t really any there. Devon just hacked it off with a Stanley knife. Got to tart the bare roof up with some insulation, and run a live feed for the interior light I put under the locker.

Been busy refurbishing the kitchen unit from Major.

Old shelves removed as they had slots for the sink and water tank, a new back fitted and a new worktop. Note, the unit is not grey, the camera flash left a glare making it look that way :)

Just got to sand the worktop with some really fine paper and apply some wood oil.

Decided to temporarily swap over a Chinese distributor with points and a pre-aligned clamp onto the engine to make sure its a ready timed 'hot swap' spare.
That worked OK, so I put the Accuspark+ Bosch distributor back.

While leaning on the back of the bus I discovered that the 'restorers' had not actually welded the rear valance to anything except at the ends.. it moves in and out in the middle relative to the metalwork with the engine catch on it. .making the rubber engine bay lid seal effectively 5mm thicker. It also explains why the lid is hard to shut, and why it pops open..

Its been like that for 8 years, so I dont think it will miss me leaving it a bit to plug weld a few dots in after Techenders and taking both daughters to different university accomodation in the same road in Bristol. One starting 4th year , one starting 1st year.

  17. Fitted a Vintage Speed exhaust. Didn't really need one but I was jealous of all the people who say how good they are on exhaust threads.
