Wherever you live in the world, chances are your country has a TV show that manages to both delight and irritate viewers whilst simultaneously making them feel a bit uncomfortable, but also a little more self-confident. We are of course talking about programmes that revolve around home videos, sharing everything from embarrassing prom nights to dangerous stunts gone wrong, with some saucy accidents and Great Danes dressed in cargo pants thrown in for good measure. I must admit to being extremely disappointed back in the day when I followed the crowd and bought a Camcorder. Family days out changed dramatically as everyone else was having a good time and I was left behind trying to artistically capture the moment, only to find later on that the highlight of the tape was my son's highjacking of the camera and zooming in on the back of my head, adding a suitably disrespectful commentary. Any GoPro fans on here? Here I am ready for action>
I've never bothered, is there anything worse than having to sit through a friends movie of their holiday trip?
I look back at old family photos and I am not in many of them as I was the one taking the happy family pics.
When we visited Florida in 1991 we had our first camcorder - I saw most of the theme parks through the black & white viewfinder
Imagine more shows like you've been framed? I don't think I have ever taken video on my mobile never mind owning a camcorder
Always felt it was a traditional punishment inflicted by other family members on their nearest and dearest.
Before the camcorder, it was the Slide Show: hundreds of Kodak slides of Dave and Angela in Majorca. Many family members simply killed themselves, rather than sit through it.
My father in law used to drive us mad with his camcorder. Holidays, weddings, parties anything in fact was game, but a few years back after he had been dead a while we sat down and watched a family tape he put together. There are 7 couples in the family that have grown up together, had families ourselves and been part of each others lives as our kids have grown up. Recently we have drifted as 50 odd year olds do in life, getting on with our own thing etc, but when we sat together and watched that tape with gran and the kids there wasn't one of us with a dry eye in the room afterwards. It was amazing seeing us all growing up and the fun we had together both here and in Italy. I silently thanked him for the memory.
